The GPRD and Academic Research
Welcome to the GPRD academic web page. This area of the website provides information specifically aimed at those interested in using GPRD data for academic research in primary care or public health.
Please see 'Access for UK Academics via MRC agreement' for information on the MRC licence for academic research using GPRD.
The General Practice Research Database (GPRD) is the world's best database of anonymised longitudinal medical records from primary care. Containing comprehensive observational data from clinical practice, it is a valuable tool for academic research in a broad range of areas including clinical epidemiology, disease patterns, disease management, outcomes research, and drug utilisation.
The quality and reputation of the GPRD data make it an invaluable resource for researchers. There have been over 600 research papers published in peer-reviewed journals.

The database is managed by the GPRD Group within the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the UK's medicines and devices regulator, on a non-profit making basis. The data are updated once every month to create a static monthly version of GPRD, containing all data collected up to the week of creation. GPRD data can be made available to customers via a secure online service to the live data called Full Feature GPRD (FF-GPRD), as project-specific raw data-sets or as aggregate tables.
