Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD)
The Clinical Practice Research Datalink, CPRD will be run within the MHRA by an extended GPRD group. CPRD is a partnership between the National Institute for Health Research and the MHRA.
CPRD will:
- provide access to data and linked data for the 52 million English NHS population
- enable Primary Care clinical trials via an integrated eCRF-EHR system
- provide a full research service
The CPRD services will be operational in April 2012

New Appointment
Tjeerd van Staa, Head of Research at GPRD, has been appointed as Honorary Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine within the Faculty of Epidemiology & Population Health. This appointment recognises Tjeerd's immense contribution to pharmacoepidemiology and in particular the development of new, powerful research methodologies.
New Arrangement for MRC Funds
The MRC previously provided access to the General Practice Research Database (GPRD) via a licence agreement. Although this agreement has now come to an end,
the MRC remains committed to supporting public health and primary care research and will continue to provide researchers with support for access to GPRD.
