The Pharmaceutical Industry Competitiveness Task Force (PICTF) report identified a package of actions to address issues facing the industry in bringing innovative products to market.
These included better access to epidemiological databases. The General Practice Research Database (GPRD) is a long established database that can be used to carry out feasibility, modelling and simulation studies, in order to improve randomised clinical trial design and also potentially to improve centre selection.
It enables clinical planning departments to study disease progression over time, population dynamics, treatment patterns and real-life health outcomes for a large and representative population.
