Level 1 Reports
General Description
Level 1 reports provide profile information on the quality and quantity of GPRD data. Level 1 is the commencement point allowing researchers to investigate the scale and feasibility of using GPRD data for their studies.
All reports are refreshed monthly and reflect the status on the report run date. Detail of the run date can be found in the footnote of each report.
All Level 1 reports are run against patients with Acceptable Patient status from practices that are up to Research Standard.
Acceptable Patients
The Acceptable Patient Flag is set to 'Yes' if all of the following four conditions apply:
- Event Records Flag
This flag records the result of a search for event records that exist prior to the Birth Year of the patient. If any records exist prior to this date then the flag is No, otherwise it is Yes. This flag is recalculated for every patient after every collection using the age at event field on the events tables.
-
Registration Details Flag
This flag must be set to 'Y' or 'V' for patients to be included. Flags are set to the 'Y' or 'V' status if their records meet the following criteria:
- The patient is registered as Applied (A), Permanent (P) or Transferred Out (T.O).
- The registration date is recorded as after or equal to Year of Birth.
- For patients registered as A or P, there is no T.O reason and or T.O. date.
- For those patients registered as T.O there is a valid T.O reason and date recorded and the date is after the registration date
- Patient Gender Flag
The flag is set to Yes only if the record complies to one of the following: Male, Female, or Indeterminate. Unless indicated, only Male and Female genders have been used to stratify the data. The flag is calculated for the first insert of a patient record and is then only recalculated if the superseding patient record inserts a new gender record, otherwise it will retain the value of the existing patient record.
- Age of Patient Flag The flag is set to 'Y' if the patient is less than 115 years old and not recorded as dead. The flag is recalculated for every patient without a date of death once per year and on every update to the record.
Research Standard Pratices
A practice-based quality marker, the Up-to-Standard date (UTS date), is generated for each practice in FF-GPRD, indicating when data recording by the practice complied with specific quality measures. Generation of the UTS date is based on an assessment of the completeness, continuity and plausibility of data recording in key areas, in accordance with the GPRD Recording Guidelines.

Patient Profile Report
Available to Level 4 on-line users the Patient Profile Report provides the researcher with an overview of a patient's clinical record held within the GPRD at the date on which the report was run.
The report includes the following information:
- Patient details including year of birth and sex.
- Patient current registration status including dates and reason for transferred out, if applicable.
- Patient event history including the type and date of the event (C=clinical, Px=therapy, I=immunisation, T=test, R=referrals) and the description of the event together with the code of the term used.
