Why GPRD? - Testimonials
Testimonials from contributing GPs
It's brilliant that the MCA have taken over GPRD. We are confident that GPRD will thrive and prosper and that its full potential for contributing GPs and medical researchers will now be realised. We have complete confidence that our practice's and patients' confidentiality is respected. From my contacts with GPRD, I am convinced that the MCA is totally committed to confidentiality, and will take all necessary steps to ensure this continues.

We have been keeping and supplying data for over 11 years. Once committed, we found it improved our self-discipline in record keeping, even the least enthusiastic partner being kept up to the mark! We are glad to know we are doing our bit for drug safety. We look forward to the improved feedback on data quality for Vision practices and expect this to help us in our dealings with our PCG.

The data collection requirements are easily achieved in an organised practice and have considerable other benefits such as improved IOS claiming, easier audits and more effective use of the system. The value of externally validated data has been recognised by several LHCCs (Scottish PCG equivalents) and the practices are beginning to be used to benchmark other practices' data quality.

We are delighted that the MCA are providing the necessary, substantial funding to enable GPRD's full potential to be realised. For the past 6 years we have been pressing for a minimum payment of 25p per patient per year to contributing practices and are pleased this has been achieved from April 2000. We are now working closely with the MCA to develop better feedback to practices on data quality and practice information which will help practices in their discussions with PCG's. Practices who contribute to the GPRD are, of course, very well placed to meet any data collection requirements."
